The in and out regarding Nail Polish

There is something about having my toes painted that makes them look so much better when I am wearing flip flops.  Shoot, they look so much better even without flip flops.

As long as I can remember, I have always had a pretty decent collection of nail polish.  When I say decent, I mean anywhere from 20-30 bottles.  Some were used more than others, however, they all had one thing in common.  You might be wondering what this one thing was.  It wasn’t visible when the polish was on however, once the polish was removed there it was, discolored nails.  This got me thinking, what is in the nail polish that is causing this?  Is this good for me and or safe?  Right now you’re probably thinking it’s nail polish what can it really do.

Low and behold it can do a lot.  The top three chemicals of concern are toluene, dibutyl phthalate (dbp) and formaldehyde – the so called ‘toxic trio’.  There have been numerous studies on this.  It truly broke my heart once I started digging into this and reading what brands contain TPHP.  Click here to see if your nail polish is on the list.

After finding out the brands I once loved were on the list, I started looking to find a healthier and safer alternative.  Low and behold I found a brand…..ella+mila.

ella+mila took it one step step further by omitting the 3 most common chemicals found in nail polishes, but also omitted 2 other very dangerous chemicals, making ella+mila nail polishes FREE of FIVE chemicals.  Toluene, dibutyl phthalate (dbp), formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, and camphor.  Not only are these polishes a safer option, they have a wide variety of colors to choose from.

After viewing their website I found one that I wanted to try.  I anxiously awaited for my nail polish to arrive in the mail.  Once I received it, it didn’t take long for me to try it out.  I was thrilled with the quality of the product and wondered why the other brands couldn’t have omitted the most common chemicals in their nail polish.IMG_1139

I encourage you to replace your nail polish with a safer option.  These small steps will add up to large steps over time, and the reward for taking these steps is priceless.  I have found I am missing nothing by omitting these toxic chemicals and replacing them with safer alternatives.  In fact, I feel healthier overall that I am living a chemical free life as much as I can.

I would love to hear what colors you pick from ella+mila. Take a picture of what color you bought and post it on my Facebook page in the comment section of this post.

In the picture is ella+mila honey-moon bliss in their love collection.  Perfect!
