DIY – Muscle Rub

Am I the only one whose to-do list grows during the summer months?  Often times this list consists of things to get done outside.  Our previous house was on an acre of land.  I am sure you can picture the length of that list.  It also seems like every year I get older the harder it is on my body to do manual labor.  Am I the only one that feels this way?  Please tell me I’m not.  My lower back, thighs, arms, you name it, it all gets sore.

Besides my to-do list, I challenge my body through various workouts.  Just the other day I was struggling to sit on the toilet.  Yes, I just said that.  I have a tendency to push myself to my limit in every workout.  Previously, I would load Icy Hot all over my body to give my muscles some much needed relief.  I don’t do that anymore since Icy Hot Extra Strength Pain Relieving Balm is a 5 and Icy Hot Advanced Relief Cream is a 9 on the Think Dirty App.  Yup, not good at all.  I am sure you are similar to me and workout to challenge yourself and to live a healthy lifestyle.  Loading up with toxic ingredients would make no sense at all.

You are in luck!  I have created my own Muscle Rub and I am going to share it with you.  This Muscle Rub is perfect for anyone who needs some much needed relief.  It is a must have during the summer months when you are busy mulching, planting, painting, and so on.  It’s also provides an ah-mazing feeling for those who challenge their body from activities such as cycling, pilates, Pure Barre, weight lifting, and so much more.

I wanted to make sure the muscle rub was more of a balm instead of a cream.  Depending the temperature you keep your house in the summer, you may want to store it in the refrigerator to keep it hard.  If you have coconut oil in your pantry and it starts to turn into a liquid in the jar the same thing will happen to this.

Muscle Rub

  • 1/2 cup organic coconut oil
  • 1 tbsp shea butter
  • 2 tsp beeswax pallets
  • 20 drops panaway
  • 15 drops copaiba
  • 10 drops peppermint (optional)
  • 4 oz glass jar or 2-2 oz glass jars
  1. Create a double boiler.  Add organic coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax pallets.
  2. Stir occasionally until it is melted (liquid)
  3. Remove from heat and add drops of Panaway and Copaiba. (and peppermint)
  4. Poor into glass jar.
  5. Let cool on the countertop or place in refrigerator.

This also makes the perfect gift for the active person in your life.  🙂
