How many times have you heard the saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”? Have you ever really thought what the phrase is telling you? Over the years I have been incorporating phrases in my daily life and this was the one that jumped out at me first.
Previously, I would dwell on the negative instead of looking towards the positive. My focus wouldn’t be productive as my feelings would take over and I would start feeling sorry for myself. This would then lead into being sensitive and emotional. Ultimately leading into emotional eating. The worse part, I’m in the fitness industry and know better than this.
I know emotional eating is not going to change things into a positive. I know emotional eating is only going to lead into a negative out come. I know it will continue the downward spiral into feeling sorry for myself. I know it will not lead me to the goals I have set.
Life isn’t always fair. Sometimes we don’t have all the answers however, most of the time we do have the control to view things in a positive or negative way. It’s a lot easier to sway towards the negative side. As a society we have become accustom to the negativity. If the waiter doesn’t come to our table right away, we complain. If a shirt doesn’t look right, we complain. If our hot chocolate is to hot, we complain. The list can go on and on. I’m sure you are thinking some things right now. Toss social media into the mix and we see negative things daily. I enjoy social media however, I don’t like when people blast others on social media. Sometimes we forget we are all human and unfortunately, we all have bad days. We complain way to much that we rarely ever think about the positive.
I challenge you to get out a piece of paper and write down five positive things. Seriously, get a piece of paper out and start writing. Here are mine: my health, happily married, our dogs, new experiences, and my athletic ability. All of these fall into “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade”.
My health, I haven’t seen a doctor for a illness in over two years! This is huge! Thanks to Young Living Essential Oils I have been healthy. Of course, I could pick different things apart on areas I want to improve on instead of realizing how truly healthy I have been since I have omitted chemicals. This is where goals come into play.
Happily married. Love is the base of our marriage. We make sure we tell each other daily those simple words, I love you. I’m sure we both could give one or two things we both need to work on however, we recognize all the things we are great at.
Our dogs, Koda and Conan make us a family. They fill our house with so much joy and laughter. We often bring up memories that they both have done. We could think about the money we spend on them that does not go towards a tax right off but honestly, what good would that do?
New experiences. With every move we make I am able to work for a new company. This provides me the opportunity to get certified in different techniques and continue to build my knowledge in the health and wellness industry. I could focus on having to say good-bye however, with social media and technology its never good-bye.
My athletic ability. Without it, I wouldn’t have been able to complete a Half Iron-Man. 70.3 miles is no joke. Of course, I could focus on how my times aren’t up to Olympic standards. Let’s face it, it is a small percentage that have those times.
As you can see, with all my positive things I can still point out what some may view as negatives. I am making the decision to embrace the fact that I woke up today. I have been married for over 8 years. I have two adorable dogs who love my husband and I. I have lived in 11 different cities/towns in 5 states. I am able to workout and move my body everyday. This just made me smile. Positivity for the win!
When you hit a road block in life, turn lemons into lemonade. You will feel so much better when you try your best to find a positive can-do attitude in the face of adversity or misfortune. Positive thinking for the WIN!
