A Brunch To Remember

Sometimes it takes putting on your big girl panties and applying to something and waiting to hear back whether or not you made the cut to get out of your comfort zone.  This sounds so dramatic but in reality if you never take a chance you will never learn and grow as a person.

Back in February I filled out an application to be considered to be apart of the Dallas Bloggers Brunch.  It’s an event where ten to twelve women get together to network, take pictures, and eat brunch.  Then later on blog about the experience.

Last Friday, I got an invitation to attend this month’s Dallas Bloggers Brunch.  To say I was excited is an understatement.  You see, since we always move, it’s hard to put yourself out there and be the new kid on the block since you are always the new kid.  Sometimes it’s easier to guard yourself then actually put yourself out there and meet new people.  When we moved to Dallas I wanted to create a blog where I could share my passion of living a clean and healthy lifestyle.  This lifestyle includes Young Living Essential Oils, fitness, and my struggle with infertility.  The blogging world was foreign to me however, that didn’t stop me from what I wanted to do.  So when I saw the invitation in my email I was so excited to meet other bloggers and learn from them. Blogging isn’t easy.  It takes a lot of time and love.  I am glad I didn’t know how much time I would spend building Essentially Amy Lynn before I actually started.  I may have had second thoughts.  Thankfully I will be able to take this blog where ever my Mac and a good internet connection takes me.

Being a Pure Barre instructor and working from home keeps me in athletic wear all day long everyday.  I should really say, it keeps me rocking my lululemon apparel all day.  So when I knew I had to actually wear people clothes I didn’t know what to wear.  Yes, I know people wear athletic wear however, traditionally they don’t wear it all day long.  My sister reminded me that you can’t lose wearing anything from Anthropologie.  So that’s exactly what I did.  I paired my outfit with a pair of Cole Hahn heels and I was ready to go.  Keep in mind, I usually wear flip flops so I was nervous I was going to take a spill while walking.  I curled my hair which I rarely do since I usually toss it up in a bun on the top of my head.  I surprise people all the time by how long my hair really is since it’s always up.  I painted my best face on and I was on my way.

Brunch was at Pie Tap Pizza Work Shop + Bar.  This was my first time and won’t be my last.  Once I parked I headed in to be greeted by the friendliest gentleman.  I love walking into a restaurant to a warm and welcoming hello.  I saw where I needed to go and walked over and met Rhonda Jenkins the creator of The Dallas Bloggers Brunch and blogger of  The Skinny Arm.  She was warm and inviting like her Instagram account and Blog.  It felt like I already knew her even though this was my first time meeting her in real life.  I was then introduced to the talented Elise Woods, blogger of Prim + Lovely.  She created the floral arrangement that was in the center of our table.  It was absolutely stunning.  After chatting with her for a moment I found out she moved from Conway, AR.  It brought back memories of living in Northwest Arkansas and traveling to Hendrix College for swim meets.  The next person who came in was Hailey Lamb, blogger of The Pretty Priority.  If you are in the Dallas area and need a make-up artist she is your lady.  One by one all the other ladies kept coming in. They were all sweet and down to earth.  We all went into picture taking mode in hopes to capture this wonderful experience in the best image.  Thankfully Kaitlin Harveston, blogger of The Hype was there.  She took amazing photos and was kind enough to share with everyone after the event was over.  Talk about sweat as pie.

Once we were finished taking pictures we found our name tags.  Talk about personal touch.  Scribbles Lettering did a wonderful job creating the perfect name tags to be displayed.  I was so excited to take mine home with me.  Now I have to find the perfect spot in my office to display it.  Every time I look at it, it will remind me how much I benefitted from hitting submit on my application.

Now came the hard part, what did I want to eat.  The brunch menu was amazing.  It had something for everyone.  I can’t wait to go back with my husband and try something else.  After our orders were placed we went around and introduced ourselves and shared what we blog about as well as our Instagram handle.  This is a huge part of networking.  Connecting with others and learning from them will only help us all to continue to grow.  By the time the last person was finished our food was being brought out to our table.  The presentation was picture worthy and that is exactly what we all did.  We took pictures of our food as well as others.  I will have to remind myself not to look through my pictures when I am hungry.  I ordered the goat cheese and egg white omelet.  I love that all their ingredients are from the best local places around.

Brunch is not complete unless you have dessert.  Being a huge chocolate lover I was so excited to have a bite of the warm chocolate dessert.  Seriously, a bite is all I needed.

Sometimes you need to put your big girl panties on and rock them.  I have been stepping out of my comfort zone a lot lately and have benefitted from each experience, this one included.  If you hold back you may never reach your full potential.  Believe me, if I can do it, so can you.  I’m already looking forward to the next time I get to meet up with some of these ladies again.
